Here is why I am torn: Facebook tells you when your friends are having a birthday. If it weren't for Facebook, I wouldn't remember a number of these birthdays. So what do I do? Do I say "Happy Birthday!!" to a friend only because I was reminded by someone else? I feel guilty. It isn't me that is remembering them (which, if we honestly admit it, it's the fact that someone cares enough to remember these details about us that makes us feel so great), it's an online community.
I still care for my friends, I care deeply for them and want them to know this, but don't want to ride on the shirt tails of Facebook...

Agreed. It's a dilemma.
Better to have someone remind you then not to remember at all.
It doesnt matter if you remembered by yourself or not. What matters is if you are going to take the time to tell them happy birthday. Cuz it doesnt matter if you know its their bday and dont say anything cuz they wont know the difference if you remembered or not. What really matters is if your gonna accualy tell them or not.
I agree with Indy~ I mean they might feel disappointed if you didn't tell them happy birthdayat all.
People used to write them on calendars before technology took over... they didn't remember by themselves, but no one cared:) You did remember- does it matter what reminded you? A one of the reasons the birthday is on their site is so that people can remember more easily =) I know I wouldn't remember my friends B.day without the YG calendar or my computer's calendar =)
Oh man, should we feel guilty about that? I am HORRIBLE at remembering birthdays, and when I am curious when someone's bday is I look it up on myspace or facebook, without it... things would be ugly. I just cna't remember birthdays and count on it as being an extended (And accurate!) calendar. Speeking of which, I need to look you up, you're a late Aug babe, right? hmmm. don't be hurt.
really wish there was an edit option on these things...or, maybe I should just proof read before posting. The errors in that last post are like nails on a chalkboard. sorry.
I know 2 people (TWO PEOPLE) who actually *actually* remember birthdays. I still have trouble remembering my mom's, and one of my sisters. don't ask me why :)
ride on matty...we all do!!
