Last Tuesday I saw our neighbor across the street pulling in her garbage can. She is a nice lady who lives with her husband Pat. They have lived in their house since it was built in 1951. Pretty awesome. I didn't want to see a woman who's age is reflected by the above facts to move her garbage can if I am perfectly able, so I helped. We talked and she mentioned the ice in her driveway. I offered to help, she accepted, I am helping and feeling very good about it.
I must admit, doing something because it makes me feel good is not the right reason to do something. So I'm not. One of the rewards I do gain from this is finding out my neighbor fought the Germans in 1944 with his twin brother. The army tried to split them up, but they talked to the chaplain and were able to stick together. I love helping this couple, they are just great. I could do without their little poodle, but that's okay.
There are a couple of reasons why I do help this couple, here they are: First, I pray that Christ might be glorified in my service to them. He is the reason behind it. Second, I want my Gramps to be proud of me (I even took my hat off outside while talking to the couple, there was a lady present). My Gramps is a great man, he goes extremely out of his way to help anyone. He's just great.
Anyways, I hope you have a neighbor you can help out. In Christ's name, in the name of being neighborly and in the hopes of learning something new and great about those around you.

It is OK to feel joy from helping another. Doesn't God tell us to?
