My Friend John

For those who know me there might be an inkling that my favorite artist is none other than John Mayer. He is a man who's musical influence is making a full circle into influencing those who once influenced him. He is a man (though made a drastic mistake in recent girlfriend choices and a Rolling Stone interview) has kept a "bad good boy" image for most of his career. He is a man... who desperately needs Christ. I peruse his blog (linked as John in my "Friends section) regularly enough to have my wife and friends accuse me of obsession. I assure them I am not, but I am drawn into this guy's words and thoughts. He's hilarious, very intelligent (so why Jessica?!?!?!) and admittedly declares the void he has in his life (May 14th, 2007 post on his blog, very interesting read).

I say this because my heart hurts for him. He needs Christ. He needs to know what God has done for him and what would perfectly fill his void.

His latest post praises the band of Christians known as MUTEMATH. Pray that God will work through the lyrics of this band and bring my friend John into the family. I'd sit next to him.

It sounds crazy, but I do feel God tugging me to pray for him. Maybe y'all should pray for some celebrity you like who does not know Christ. When you do this, realize that prayer moves mountains, why not John Mayer? or Tom Sherry? or ? Let's pray for my friend John first though, because if he is able to make this great of music without following God, imagine if he were singing for God's glory!

Wow...Matt...this post just made my day. The fact that you would mention Tom Sherry as a celebrity we should perhaps pray for is, well, divinely inspired to say the least! Thanks for your compassion for the world!

i pray for celebrities a lot :) glad i'm not alone! they are people too, and honestly matty, i think God prompts us to pray for them. they get torn apart and accused enough, nothing like a little prayer to show them love :)
ps. if john became a christian, that means we could get married, which I am totally fine with!!!
